About us
AAU Satlab is a student organization at Aalborg University, where students across all years and fields of study meet around our common passion, Space!
Students fully drive the team, where they cooperate in building satellites, right from the drawing board to the operation of fully functioning spacecraft(s).
From this organization a multitude of successfull startups that have emerged, e.g Gomspace, Satlab, Sternula

Since 2001 students at AAU have designed, built, launched and operated five CubeSats.
Our adventure came to life around 2000 when students had been watching how Ørsted – the first Danish satellite, got brought to life and launched before their eyes.
Inspired by Bob Twiggs USA, who invented the CubeSat standard, We started to use this standard to develop the small satellites here at AAU. For more on our history be sure to visit the History page.
Problem based learning
“At Aalborg University students work in groups applying problem oriented methods in preparing projects of a high academic standard according to the pedagogical model of the University”
Inspired by the university we are integral practitioners of problem based learning. A methodology that focuses on supporting the theory by real examples and experiences. Our organization does to this extent provide the room and motivation, to explore and solve real engineering challanges by their own hand, and allows knowledge to be shared between students at different semesters.

Our mantra
- It must be fun
- It must be serious
- We are in it together
- We(the students) do it all – no COTS subsystems in our satellite
- Our own mission
- Our own design of whole satellite and all subsystems
- Our own soldering, assembly, testing etc
- Deliver to launch
- We operate our satellite
